A project developed in a process-focused course, beginning with a search for football-field shapes hidden within newspaper pages. The layout, margins, and areas of white space created unexpected variations of the familiar field outline. These shapes were cut out, traced, rearranged, and explored as abstract forms.From these cutouts, I created stencils that became the basis for figures of football players, painted in two tones of grey and finished with pencil. Each character originated from a different newspaper page, so their forms shifted according to the typography and composition they came from. The result is a series of players whose shapes are directly influenced by the printed layouts that generated them.
